BLOCKED DRAIN?… NO PROBLEM!
We have a dedicated team specialising in blocked drains and drainage issues. Generally, if more than one fixture is draining slowly, the blockage is usually too severe for a standard plunge and advanced equipment is required.
We use high-pressure drain jetting equipment — a specialised hose with a 5000 PSI jetting head — capable of cutting through tree roots, clearing heavy blockages, and thoroughly cleaning the inside of your pipework for a longer-lasting result.
$340 JETTER CLEARED BLOCKAGES*
*HOW THE PRICING WORKS - Our blocked drain service is $340 for the first hour, which includes a $200 specialist equipment fee.
This gives our plumber access to the equipment needed to properly investigate and clear the blockage, including drain jetting, CCTV camera inspection and locating equipment where required. After the first hour, time is charged at $58 per 15 minutes. Most blockages — around 90% — are cleared within the first hour. Any materials required will be quoted separately before proceeding.
Please note: The specialist equipment fee applies once the equipment is allocated to your job, even if every item of equipment is not used onsite.
LEAK DETECTION?… LET’S FIND IT!
*$360 TO LOCATE YOUR LEAK.
Learn more
We have a dedicated team specialising in water and gas leak detection. If you’ve received an unusually high water or gas bill, there’s a strong chance a hidden leak may be the cause. At The Plumbing & Electrical Co., we use advanced leak detection equipment and proven diagnostic methods to accurately locate leaks with minimal disruption.
Unlike many leak detection companies, our licensed technicians are also fully qualified to carry out the repairs — meaning we don’t just find the problem, we provide reliable, long-term solutions to fix it properly.
WATER DETECTION EQUIPMENT:
-
Many leaks create sound — even when they’re not audible to the human ear. Our acoustic equipment amplifies and pinpoints these sounds, allowing us to accurately locate leaks hidden behind walls, underground, or beneath concrete.
-
Thermal cameras detect temperature variations across surfaces, making them highly effective for identifying hot water leaks. We can also introduce hot water into cold lines to trace and identify leaks within cold water systems.
-
Moisture meters help us identify the wettest areas within walls and floors, guiding us to the most likely leak location. This also helps determine whether the issue is a pressurised water leak or a waterproofing failure (such as in a shower).
-
By pressurising your plumbing system, we can determine the severity of a leak and confirm whether a system is losing pressure. This helps us choose the most effective detection method moving forward.
-
This is one of the most precise leak detection methods available. We remove water from the pipe system and introduce a specialised, non-toxic gas. Because the gas is extremely fine, it can escape through even the smallest leaks and travel through walls, flooring, and concrete, allowing us to detect otherwise invisible leaks.
This method is typically used when other techniques have been unsuccessful.
GAS DETECTION EQUIPMENT:
-
Sensitive gas detection devices identify even trace amounts of gas in the air, allowing us to pinpoint leak locations quickly and accurately.
-
These instruments measure gas pressure within the system. A drop in pressure indicates a leak, helping us confirm its presence and severity.
-
By introducing compressed air into the gas line, we can safely increase pressure and identify leaks based on pressure loss or audible detection methods.
-
Gas leaks are often caused by faulty or deteriorating appliances. We carry out tightness testing on appliances to ensure they are safe and compliant — particularly important in commercial environments.
-
A safe, visible smoke is introduced into pipework, allowing us to visually identify where gas is escaping. This is especially useful for locating leaks in concealed or hard-to-access areas.
How Leak Detection Pricing Works
If you receive an estimate, this is an approximate cost based on the information available at the time and may change if additional issues or unforeseen conditions are discovered onsite.
If you receive a quote, this is a fixed price for a clearly defined scope of work and will only change if the scope changes or additional work is requested.
Common Pricing Structures
• Fixed-price services for standard repairs and installations
• Time & materials pricing for complex or open-ended work
• Diagnostic or call-out fees for site attendance and testing
Labour charges are based on technician skill level, job complexity, and time onsite. Minimum charges may apply.
Materials & Additional Costs
Materials are itemised separately and may include a standard markup. Specialty parts, permits, disposal fees, inspections, or freight charges may be additional unless specifically included in the quote.
Changes & Unforeseen Work
If hidden damage or additional issues are discovered, we will discuss updated pricing and obtain approval before proceeding with any extra work.
Warranties
Warranty periods vary depending on the type of work and products used and will be outlined in your estimate or invoice.
Transparency
We provide written estimates, quotes, and itemised invoices wherever possible. Please ask if you would like clarification on any pricing before work begins.
Specialty Equipment Fee
Leak detection requires specialised equipment including acoustic, thermal, pressure, and gas detection devices. The equipment fee applies once the gear is allocated to your job, even if every item is not required onsite, as the equipment is reserved exclusively for your booking.
A minimum charge of $340 applies for any visit requiring reservation or attendance with specialist leak detection equipment.
LET’S GET THAT LARGE BILL CREDITED BACK TO YOU!
Unexpectedly High Water Bill? We Can Help. If you’ve received a large water bill due to a leak, it’s understandably frustrating. The good news is, you may be eligible for a credit. Once we’ve repaired the leak, we’ll provide you with a detailed invoice as proof of the work completed. You can then submit this to the Water Corporation, who will assess your claim and, in many cases, credit the excess charges back to your account.
Please note:
This process generally only applies to unusually high water bills caused by leaks and does not extend to gas leaks.

WATER HAMMER – WHAT IT IS & HOW WE FIX IT
Water hammer is a common plumbing issue that causes a loud banging or knocking noise in your pipes, usually when taps, washing machines, or valves are turned off quickly.
WHY IT HAPPENS:
When water is flowing through your pipes and suddenly stops, the momentum has nowhere to go. This creates a pressure shockwave that travels through the pipework — causing that distinctive banging noise.
Over time, this pressure can:
Loosen pipe fittings
Damage valves and appliances
Lead to leaks or burst pipes
Water hammer is often caused by:
High water pressure
Worn or missing washers
Loose or poorly secured pipework
Faulty valves in appliances (like washing machines or dishwashers)
Lack of proper shock absorption in the system
HOW WE FIX IT:
Water hammer can be tricky, as there isn’t always a single guaranteed fix. We take a staged, practical approach to resolve the issue as efficiently as possible.
Common solutions include:
Installing anti-hammer (shock arrestor) devices
Replacing worn tap washers or faulty valves
Adjusting water pressure if it’s too high
Securing loose pipework
Inspecting appliances that may be causing sudden pressure changes
In some cases, a combination of solutions may be required to fully eliminate the problem.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Because water hammer can vary from property to property, resolving it can involve a bit of trial and error. We always start with the most cost-effective solution and work through the system methodically.
All work carried out is chargeable regardless of outcome, but we’ll always communicate clearly with you at each step and recommend the most practical path forward.
HOW THE PRICING WORKS
Water Hammer Inspection & Diagnosis
We charge a $200 call-out fee to attend site and carry out a thorough inspection of your plumbing system.
During this visit, one of our experienced technicians will assess where the issue is occurring and consider the specific characteristics of your home. From there, we’ll determine the most practical and cost-effective approach to resolving the problem.
Following the inspection, we will provide clear recommendations along with a quote for the proposed works.
Important Information:
Water hammer can sometimes require a step-by-step process of elimination to identify and resolve the root cause. In these cases, works may be carried out in stages, with pricing provided for each step before proceeding.
While we use proven methods and experience to guide our approach, water hammer is not always an exact science, and in rare cases, it may not be possible to completely eliminate the issue.
All work carried out is chargeable, regardless of whether a particular step fully resolves the problem.
